Marina is crushing on 'Exile' Sparkling Rose
Lise and Betrand Jousset - some of the most fun people making some of my favorite wines. The couple have been making wine together in Mountlouis-sur-Loire since 2003. The goal always being eschewing artifice and staying true to them and their values.
Their Exile line of wines sprang from a string of years where rough weather took out their yield. Forced to admit defeat thanks to mother nature, they had to go looking elsewhere for grapes up to their standards for this project. Lise and Bertrand were able to find growers who upheld their same philosophies in the vineyard - always organic, nothing synthetic or chemical, and always prioritizing life. The result has been easy drinking wines that are simple and delicious as well as a lovely bit of community building thanks to this solidarity among growers.
The ‘Exile Rose Petillant’ is made from 50% Gamay and 50% Grolleau vines that grow in clay and chalk soils. Hand-harvested and then fermented starting in older large barrels and finished in bottle for those crispy delicious pet-nat bubbles. Exile rose is joy in a bottle. Delicious and easy to drink, crisp and oh so flavorful! Some more tart strawberry and raspberry, maybe a tiny bit of creamy/brioche something, but good acid and crisp minerality above all else for me.
The seasonal depression is real in my household and really the only thing I want this time of year is for some bubbles to bring a little joy to my life. I want something easy that I don’t have to take too seriously and that’ll hit the spot - Exile is just that!
