DuoMa Pet-Nat Ambar
An ultimate late summer / early fall summer crush….. soo full of life. Bright and flavorful, this Mexican Pet-Nat will have you wishing for another heatwave (like me!!)
Grapes are grown at a higher elevation (2200ft) vineyard in the Valle de Ojos Negros (a bit SE of the Valle de Guadalupe). Planted just over 12 years ago, the vineyard soils are clay & sand bringing gorgeous minerality and structure to this CRUSH! The grapes are harvested in mid-August and naturally fermented in stainless steel tanks with the skins for 7-days. At this point it’s bottled, while the fermentation is only about three quarters of the way done. This traps the remaining CO2 that occurs during fermentation and creates that oh-so lovely bubble in petillant-natural better known as Pet-Nat.
Trust me, this pet-nat of Grenache Blanc is punching way above its price point! Expressive nose that follows through on the palate - ripe citrus zest and white peaches dancing along minerality and richer mouthfeel.
And please meet the amazing couple behind DuoMa - Carla and Eliecer. Some of the kindest and most welcoming people you’ll ever meet. Both went to school for hospitality, but decided together to ditch that path and take on this project. DuoMa is a little nod to dos manos, or the two hands that go into this project. Fully a collaboration between these two who are choosing manual procedures and minimal intervention winemaking. The focus being on the highest quality wines possible that they’re really putting themselves into. Perched atop a little hill in the middle of the Valle de Guadalupe is their production and tasting room. It’s a gorgeous metal dome that pops out like a beacon as you’re driving on the backroads heading through the valley. A few zig zags on dirt roads (and in our case a massive rain-filled pothole) brings you to this bubble of joy and thoughtful wine making. You sit and hear Eliser talk about their wines and lives and this part of the world while staring out at the colorful rolling hills of the Valle. *Perfection* And like all the winemakers we love, of course they’ve taken in way too many strays (is there such a thing as too many??).
Point is we love them and their wines & hope you will too!
