Les Clos Perdus 'Project 108'
This week’s Wine Crush is Les Clos Perdu Project 108 from Languedoc, France.
We all know how magical Seattle summers are, almost as though a magic wand has erased any last shiver of cold, dark days from our memories, and replaced them with clear blue skies, verdant greens, and majestic mountain views. And as much as we live for these lake days and warm weather, we want to recognize one of most special parts of Seattle Summer with this week’s crush: the late late sunsets and cooler evenings that are perfect for cooking well into the night with family and friends. This 50-50 blend of Mourvèdre and Carignan is a show stopping summer bbq wine. Easy drinking and earthy, with enough fleshy red and black fruit and acidity to remind you it’s still summer, this wine pairs perfectly with all your summer bbq plans.
Project 108 comes from the magical winemakers at Clos Perdu. The winery’s name means ‘lost vineyards,’ after the founder's passion for discovering small, overlooked and abandoned vineyard plots around their village, Peyriac de Mer in the Corbières. These plots of indigenous varietals were neglected due to their isolation, low cropping potential, and inability to be farmed by machine. None of which are problems for talented natural winemakers! Today the vineyard consists of 16 hectares of grapes spread throughout 35 small parcels in three different areas in Corbières. With no added sulfur this is one you’ll want to drink over the course of the evening, but, we promise, it won’t be hard.
