Castello Rodrigo Tinto
In the center of Portugal, located in the valley between the rivers Côa and Águeda is the astonishing Marofa Mountain. While the rivers flowing into the Douro River, the majestic mountain provide the beautiful background for the village of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo - a 12th century village where Cistercian monks planted, grew and cultivated wine grapes.
Harvest is mid to end October with initial fermentation happening in stainless steel vats then aged in underground concrete vats for 2 winters until the resulting yummy is bottled with no fining & no filtration.
Tinta Roriz, Rufete, Marufo, Touriga Franca - grapes more often used to make Port, these grapes produce a fun, absolute crowd pleaser that is round and fresh with bright red berry fruit with touches of black pepper and earth! Wide, generous flavors with rich, velvety tannins!
Incredible value for the money & would be amazing with a tiny chill (like 5-10 minutes in the fridge). Pair with anything roasted or grilled, pizza and/or a nice cheese + charcuterie board!
